The Smell of Sunshine - for large ensemble (2025)

The Smell of Sunshine was commissioned by the Mizzou International Composers Festival and premiered by Alarm Will Sound, conducted by Alan Pierson, on July 26, 2025, at the Sinquefield Music Center in Columbia, Missouri.

In this piece, I explore the interaction of contrapuntal layers, the mixed colors of overlapping instrumental voices, and the fragmentation of melodic gestures within a continuously flowing soundscape. The music seeks to evoke an atmosphere where warmth, memory, poetry, and fleeting impressions gently converge. The sunshine, imagined as both scent and sound, holds the air and lingers in it—its resonance gently covering the atmosphere like a soft, radiant veil of memories.
