COMPOSER

Yuan Zhi Li Lan (沅芷醴兰) was originally conceived as a multidisciplinary project in collaboration with traditional Chinese dancers and premiered at the Beijing Dance Academy in 2016. Musically, the piece cultivates an intimate dialogue between the Chinese traditional instruments, sheng and the zheng, while evoking the lyrical imagery and poetic spirit of classical Chinese literature through its fluid and expressive musical gestures.

 

 

Premiered by CAO Yuan (zheng) and ZHENG Yang (sheng) with dancers from Beijing Dance Academy at Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China, 2016.
