Stray Birds - for symphony orchestra (9 mins)                                                                                                           

  • Premiered by China Youth Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Jinge Qian, at the Beijing Concert Hall.

  • Additional performance was held by the Oregon Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Norman Huynh, at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in May 2019.

  • Broadcasted on KMFA Classical 89.5 “From the Butler School” in November 2020.

 

Dance in Xinjiang- for Chinese orchestra (10 minutes)                                                                                              

  • Premiered by China Broadcast Chinese Orchestra, conducted by Zheng Lie, at Zhongshan Park Music Hall in Beijing, China.

  • *The piece was awarded 3rd Prize Winner in the 3rd New Chinese Orchestra Composition Competition (the 1st prize vacant).

Breath VI – for Sheng and eight musicians (working in progress, 30 minutes)

  • This piece is the project based upon the doctoral dissertation.

  • Written for Eduard Teregulov and the string ensemble at Concordia College in Minnesota.

Long Nights - a micro concerto for percussion and clarinet, saxophone, and cello  (11 minutes)                               

  • Written for the [Switch~Ensemble].

  • Premiered by Megan Arns (percussion), T.J. Borden (cello), Matthew Swihart (saxophone), and Madison Greenstone (clarinet) during the online concert.

Untouched Realm – for Erhu, Zheng, flute, cello (11 minutes)                                                                                   

  • Premiered by Beijing Modern Music Ensemble, conducted by Lin Tao, at Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China.

  • *This piece was awarded 3rd Prize Winner in the 6th Con Tempo Composition Competition of New Chamber Music in 2013.

 

Pure Water without Fragrance – for Pipa, violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet (10 minutes)                                      

  • Written for Beijing International Composition Workshop.

  • Premiered by Shengying Gu (Pipa), Berlin Zafraan Ensemble, conducted by Manuel Nauri, at Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China.

  • Broadcasted on KMFA Classical 89.5 “From the Butler School” in November 2020.

  • This piece was selected and released by Score Follower in 2022; awarded the 10th SUN RIVER PRIZE Students’ New Music Composition Competition (the 1st Prize ) in 2014; awarded the Beijing International Composition Workshop,Category A (Honorable Mention)in 2013.

  • Premiered by Hanatsu Miroir Ensemble at Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center in Austin, Texas.

  •  Additional performance was given by Chartreuse Trio at the Women Composers Festival of Hartford at the Trinity College Gross Music Center and UNK New Music Series and Festival in 2023.

  • Premiered by CAO Yuan (Zheng) and ZHENG Yang (Sheng) with dancers from Beijing Dance Academy at Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China, 2016.

  • Featured in the album "Sound of Wind" by ZHENG Yang, released in 2021 on Red Records International United.

 

Nocturne – for flute, clarinet, piano, violin, viola, and cello (9 minutes)                                                                     

  • Premiere by Klangforum Wien, and ZHANG Liang (conductor) at He Luting Concert Hall, Shanghai, China.

  • Recorded by Alice Belugou in 2022.

 

Two People – for two violins (13 minutes)                                                                                                                   

  • Premiered at Hochschule für Musik und Theater, Hamburg, Germany, 2015 by Menlin Chi and Anne Friederike Greuner.

  • Performed by NOMAD Tokyo in Chengdu, China, 2016.

  • The revised version was played by Altius Quartet at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the Hong Kong City Hall Theatre in 2017.

  • *The piece was awarded the 12th SUN RIVER PRIZE Students’ New Music Composition Competition (the 2nd Prize) and Impulse New Music Festival Call for Scores (Finalist) in 2021.

  • *The piece was awarded the Composition Competition of the United States Golden Key Music Festival (the 2nd Prize) in 2012, the 17th National Musical Works Competition for Chorus and Orchestra (Honorable Mention), and the 14th International Composition at Carl von Ozziezky-Prize of Oldenburg University (Honorable Mention) in 2015.

  • The score was published by Shanghai Music Publishing House in 2013.

  • Premiered by Jinge Zhang (soprano) at Shanghai Concert Hall, 

  • Featured in the concert at the Shanghai Spring International Music Festival.

Sound of Wind - recompose and arrange for Sheng and Piano  (7 minutes)                                                                

  • Commissioned by ZHENG Yang. 

  • Premiered in the China Central Television China Instrumental Music Competition.

  • Featured in the album "Sound of Wind" by ZHENG Yang, released in 2021 on Red Records International United.

 

HE《天地人和》- rearranged and orchestrated for Sheng and the Chinese orchestra (8 minutes)                            

  • Commissioned by Beijing Chinese Orchestra.

  • Premiered by ZHENG Yang (Sheng), ZHANG Ming (conductor), and the Beijing Chinese Orchestra at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, China, in 2018.

  • From 2018 to 2023, the piece was performed over 100 times nationally by the Beijing Traditional Orchestra.

 

Tango Fantasy – rearranged for Sheng quartet (5 minutes)                                                                                        

  • Commissioned and premiered by the Sheng ensemble at the Central Conservatory in Beijing, China. 

  • Many Sheng artists have performed this piece over 50 times between 2012 and 2023. The latest performance was by the Sheng ensemble at the Macao Chinese Orchestra in July 2023 in Macao.

 

Kangding Love Song - rearranged and orchestrated for vocalists and Chinese orchestra (7 minutes)                       

  • Commissioned by the China Broadcast Chinese Orchestra.

  • Premiered at the Toronto Centre for the Arts by the China Broadcast Chinese Orchestra in February 2013.  

  • Since 2013, the China Broadcast Chinese Orchestra has performed the piece numerous times internationally.
